Winter School “Nutrigenomics in Action” Strengthens Knowledge Exchange on Nutrient-Dense Crop Production

On 22 December 2025, the Winter School titled “Nutrigenomics in Action – Practical Cropping Strategies for Production of Nutrient-Dense and Health-Safe Food” was successfully organized as part of the CREDIT Vibes project activities aimed at strengthening knowledge transfer between research institutions and agricultural stakeholders.

The event brought together around 30 participants, including farmers, representatives of agricultural cooperatives, agribusiness stakeholders, and supply-chain partners. The Winter School provided a platform for exchanging practical knowledge on improving crop quality and safety through the application of nutrigenomics and modern crop-production strategies.

The programme featured six thematic sessions covering key topics essential for sustainable and market-oriented crop production:

  • crop genetics and selection strategies,
  • soil and field management practices,
  • climate adaptation approaches,
  • nutribreeding and biofortification,
  • and comparisons between conventional and organic production systems.

The training was delivered through interactive presentations and discussions, encouraging active dialogue between researchers and practitioners and enabling participants to connect scientific advances with real production challenges.

This activity contributed directly to the objectives of the CREDIT Vibes project by strengthening cooperation between research institutions and end-users, promoting the adoption of innovation in agriculture, and supporting future collaboration between the Maize Research Institute (MRI) and farming stakeholders.

Participants left the Winter School equipped with practical recommendations ready for immediate application in their production systems, as well as a clearer understanding of market opportunities related to nutrient-dense and biofortified crops, supporting more resilient and competitive agricultural production.
